اولین دوره بازی های المپیک زمستانی نوجوانان در اینسبروک اتریش آغاز شد که از ۱۳ الی ۲۲ ژانویه ۲۰۱۲ ادامه داشت. به گزارش کمیته ملی المپیک؛ نخستین دوره بازی های المپیک زمستانی جوانان در اتریش، بیش از ۱۰۰۰ ورزشکار بین سنین ۱۴ تا ۱۸ سال را از ۷۰ کشور دنیا از قبیل : اتریش، سوییس، بریتانیا، آمریکا، سوئد، ژاپن، نروژ، کانادا، چین، یوگوسلاوی، نیوزیلند، لهستان، فرانسه، آلمان و … گرد هم آورد.
